Buffer exchange is a ubiquitous part of protein formulation and many sample preparation requirements. Conventional exchange methods are labor intensive, prone to inconsistency, and difficult to manage at larger numbers. Big Tuna provides a more uniform sample handling approach, and can additionally provide degrees of process control that are otherwise inaccessible by manual methods. We discuss some of the challenges in automating buffer exchange and how they are overcome by Big Tuna.
